Can "Show project summary task" option be the problem?

We are still experiencing corrupted project plans
(circular reference errors, crash, send error report to
Microsoft). Corruption usually happens after a PM cuts or
copies and pastes tasks in a project that has the "Show
project summary task" option checked. I have been told in
the past that cut & paste does not cause file corruptions,
but something is!! We are running MS Project & Server
2002.

Any help is appreciated,

Cut and paste can cause this when you cut and paste entire rows. This should
not be done.

What about moving (dragging and dropping)tasks within a
plan? I do this to reorganize the plan following changes
so it is easier to read and understand.

Dragging and dropping the row is the correct way to move a task in a Project
Plan, not by cutting and pasting. Cutting and Pasting, by definition creates
a delete and create new action. Copying the entire row duplicates behind the
scene information that you don't want to duplicate. You can use cut/copy and
paste on text portions of tasks such as task name. You can even get away
with Task name and duration together, but if you copy dates, you paste tasks
with constraints, an example of an unintended consequence.
