Can someone please help me with cancelling an installation?

D

Deborah Kaufman

Everytime I turn on my computer or open Microsoft Word 2002, it starts some
kind of installation. I have no idea what it is trying to install, but the
installation fails everytime and says I need to insert the CD-ROM, but I am
not tryin to install anything....I hit cancel installation and another little
window pops up and says "Error 1706...see C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office 10\1033\SETUP.HLP for more info" and I press OK and then I can
go about my business without any problems from my computer or word....Does
anyone know how to cancel that installation permanently or what I need to do
fix it? I do not have a Microsoft Office CD-ROM so I am really confused on
how my computer got that idea anyway. Please Help!!!!! Thank you in advance
your time and cooperation, Deborah Kaufman

Without the exact wording of the error, it's darned near impossible to help
you. Kind of like telling the doctor you're hurting but not telling him
where and yet you want meds.

Installation files are usually on the CD. Did you try putting your Word CD
in and see if the files are on it?

It also says something about cannot find required files....I have
absolutley
no idea whats going on....Its all about Microsoft Word 2002....Like I
said,
it works fine after I press cancel on the first box, and then OK on the
2nd
box....I was kinda just wondering if there was somewhere in my computer
where
installations were stored or something and I could cancel it internally or
something....Thanks for your help.

The Error messsage says:
"Error 1706. Setup cannot fins the required files. Check your connection to
the network , or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem,
see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10\1033\SETUP.HLP." I don't have
a CD-ROM.....MS Word came with my computer. When I went to the address, I
couldn't figure out what solution I needed...I really appreciate your time. I
you can't help me, thats ok. Thanks you, Deborah K

Somewhere hidden in your hard drive is Word. Call your computer
manufacturer. Tell them that you need to access the installation files and
ask them how.

(This is the number one reason to buy a retail version of software. OEM
stuff that's hidden is a PITA.)

Hi Deborah:

It's trying to install an Update, but it needs the original source CD.

When you see that message, put your Office CD in the drive. Chances are it
will figure it out from there.

If it doesn't, go to Help menu and choose "Detect and repair". It will ask
you to insert the CD.

Cheers
