Can someone PLEASE tell me how to edit the default doc in word 2000 ?

Steve

All I need is to make the default doc open with double spacing. I could
do it with the older ver (office 97 I think).

I know I could just make a blank doc and load it each time, but it not
for me and the guys a complete computer no hopper, it worked this way on
his old system so the new one GOT to work the same...

It must be there, but I just can't find it...

Anyone point me in the right direction ?

This works the same way it did in Word 97: you need to edit Normal.dot
to have the settings you want. Actually, you can even make the change
without actually opening and editing the template, simply by changing
the properties of the Normal style. Open a new, blank document. Go to
Format menu > Style. In the list of styles at the left, select Normal,
then click the Modify button. Click the Format button and select
Paragraph. Change the line spacing to double and click OK. Check the
box for "add to template". Click OK, then Apply.

Many thanks, done and dusted. Is that the same way it was done in 97 ?

I'll admit, I set up my mates so long ago with 97 I'd completely
forgotten, but none of that seemed familiar... (must be old age
creeping up on me)

Open your normal.dot file. Mine is located in C:\Documents and settings\Mark
Burch\Application data\Microsoft\Templates but yours could be somewhere else
(Tools / Options / File locations will tell you where yours is). Set double
spacing. Save and exit. Thereafter new documents should default to double
spacing.
