can someone tell me

How do I insert a number into a word doc template which
automatically updates to the next number when the doc is
reopened. The doc template is a quotation which is going
to be used over and over again

If it is going to be heavily used, it is important that you spend the time
to set this up right because Word's automatic numbering is "broken." You can
use SEQ fields or styles or listnum fields. Styles is often the best way,
but it is some work.
