Can "Sort by: Received" be made to default to oldest on top?

When a folder is sorted by another category and I sort by a date, it first
sorts with newest on top. A second click reverses the order. Is there a way
to change this?

You can change that in View, Current Views, Customize Current View, and then
click the Sort By button. Change it there.

Thanks - that seems to work in some situations (new folder) but I haven't
found that it changes what I'm wanting to change -- the result of the first
click on the date field heading.
