Can tables be grouped with shapes?

I have PP2002 and am trying to create shapes with tables inside them.
Sometimes I have to resize the shapes and I want the table to resize with it,
so would like to group the table with the shape and have a fixed aspect
ratio. When I select the shape and table and click on Draw, Group is
grayed-out and only Ungroup is there. If I select Ungroup, I it asks me if I
want to convert tables to shapes. If I do this each cell of the table becomes
text and the cell borders become lines. This is not what I want! How can I
group tables and shapes together?

I dont think theres any way to group tables and shapes. You can resize both
together by selecting both and resizing either.

In older versions of PPT I found a workaround for this (unfortunately it
doesn't work in 2007). What I would do is draw 2 shapes then group them. Then
I would highlight the table and the shape I wanted to group, and I would
press F4. Even though you were not technically supposed to be able to group a
table and a shape, the F4 function would copy the last command, and it would
group the 2. As I said, unfortunately I can't do this in 2007 any more.
