Can the background displayed during editing of text be changed?

For the purpose of easing eye strain, I like to have the
majority of the screen dark and my text light colored.
Unfortunately, when I go to edit text within a shape, the
background is white and the text, because it is also
close to white, becomes invisible. Is there any way to
change the color of the background which is displayed
when a shapes text is edited?

I have found that I can change the fill pattern of the
text block, but sometimes this field extends beyond the
shape boundaries. This is unacceptable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
