Can Visio 4 open Visio 2000 files?

I just sent someone who is running Visio 4 some files that I created in Visio
2002 Pro. He says he can't open them.

Then I tried using my Visio Pro 2000 to save the files as Visio 5. He still
can't open them.

Is this expected?

Yes, Visio 2000/2002 can save in Visio 5 format but not back to Visio
4 format.
So, either get Visio 5 as an intermediate version (you should be able
to pick up Visio 5 very cheaply on eBay) or upgrade the Visio 4 to
2000 or 2002, again 2000/2002 should be easily available on eBay.
I don't think Visio 4 is still a viable official upgrade option
though.

I think that might be a valid upgrade. Someone who knows for sure may

Visio 2000 or later qualifies for an upgrade.

I was expecting that since that was the qualification for an upgrade to
Visio 2003, that the bar would have been raised, but it was not. So it seems
as long as the product says Microsoft you can upgrade.
