Can Visio edit EMF files?

Is there some way to get Visio to read an EMF file, edit it, and store
it back as an EMF file without my having to use Save As and type in
the name every time?

I need to create a bunch of EMF files to be linked to a Word document.
I want to edit them in Visio, but if I open them with Visio, all it
does is create a new Visio (.vsd) document and include the image. The
Save command does not save it back in the original EMF file.

I guess you will have to use the "Save As" command to save it back
by EMF.
