Can we use Outlook 2000 with MS Project Server 2003?

We are considering moving to the server version of Project. Most desktop user
have either Outlook2000 or Outlook2002. We read that Project Server 2003
works with Outlook2003, would we also have to upgrade all our users?

thanks in advance,
Dick

Gary,

Thank you for your reply.

We are currently using MS Project to track about 7-8 small (50 to 60
tasks)migration projects and would like certain employees, when assigned a
task, to be able to have them place their tasks in their task list in
Outlook. Then resond back to the project manager when finished.

We have recently migrated our old domain server(NT) to a new Dell server( MS
Server 2003), and added a new mail server running Exchange 2003.

We are hoping to plan for some "small" enterprise use of Project that would
help Senior Managers (7) in assigning tasks and tracking them easily in
coordination with an IT project manager.

Our Credit Union is small, about 80 employees all in one location.

I would be interested in any input you might have about the "lmits" of using
older versions of Office. Currently we are about 70/30% Office2000 vs
OfficeXP. But moving slowly to all OfficeXP as budgets permit.

thank again for your thoughts,
Dick

Dick:

The integration with Outlook in the 2003 version of the software working
with Project Server places the task assignments on the Calendar, not the
task list. They can be statused within the appointment dialog on a new tab
that is added. You can also display specific Project Server pages inside
Outlook using another integration approach that the system provides using
either a folder or an Outlook shortcut. This method puts nothing on the
calendar or in the task list.

Functional degradation occurs using older versions of Office against the new
SharePoint technologies. You can still use older versions of Outlook, but
some SharePoint functions will not be supported and others will work less
well.<g> This is purely related to the Office Web components.

Gary,

My organization is using Outlook 2000. Is there a way to have the tasks that
have been assigned to resources appear as tasks in the Outlook tasks folder?
