Can Word X Produce a Stationary Template with a "Date Stamp" That Won't Update?

In MacWrite Pro 1.5 I could produce a boilerplate (letterhead) and
save it as stationary that will produced an "Untitled Document" with
the current date. When the document is saved, the date is "stamped",
so the next time I open the document, I know when it was produced. I
have tried every Insert "Date and Time" and "Insert Field....Date"
combo I know in Word X and I get either a date that always updates,
even on the saved (previously "Untitled") documents and the
stationary, or a date stamp on both. Does anybody have any insight
into this? Greatly appreciated in advance, as I have found no help on
any forums or MS help files or books.

Possibly a VBA Macro?

In the template, can't you Insert | Field, click Date and Time, and select
CreateDate?

It's working for me in 2001, at least over 15 mins. The template is stamped
and stays stamped with the original time, but every new doc based on it is
stamped with time of creation, and holds it steady. Is this not what you
wanted?
