Can you automatically check for messages when opening outlook

I am using microsoft office outlook 2003. Is there anyway of programming it
so when I open outlook it automatically checks for email.

As far as I know, it does this automatically, well mine does and I don't
remember doing anything special. I know that in the
Tools|Send/Receive|Send/Receive settings you can tell it at what
intervals to check for e-mails.

Any automatic polling interval will force a poll on startup.
