can you change from one template to another

This is my first attempt at using access so please be gentle.

I am uncertain at this time which fields I will actually need for my
database. If I select one template, can I convert or import the data to a
new template at a later time or would it be easier to start with what I know
I need and add on as necessary.

Start with a template that is the closest to what you need. If another
template has one or more tables you would like to use, go to File - Get
External Data and import the table(s). Once you import the tables, modify as
necessary and then be sure to create any necessary relationships between the
imported tables and the original tables. In the same way you can also import
queries, forms, reports and modules.

You would do well to read up on Access and relational databse fundamentals.
Here are some links to get you started. IMHO Crystal's tutorial is as good a
place as any to get started.

In answer to your questions, you can import data from one database to another,
but it may not be a trivial task. You need to assure all expressions, code,
and queries are using the new names, establish relationships between the
tables if they are not already exactly what you need, and a number of other
things to be sure the data works as intended in the new database. It would
be best to establish your design before adding any data.
