can you convert Word 97 to Word 2007?

Can you convert Office 97 to Office 2007? I saw a compatibility pack to
convert Office 2003 to Office 2007. Would this compatibility pack work with
getting the 97 docs converted to a Office 2007 format?

You have this back-to-front. You can get a converter pack for Word 2000 to
Word 2003 that will recognize and convert and open Word 2007 documents. But
it doesn't work the other way around. However, Word 2007 will open previous
versions of Word documents anyway.

Unfortunately, Office 97 is out of its support period.

Terry,

Unfortunately, I have a bigger problem. I installed Office 2007 on 2
workstations (I have 5 licenses). One works like a charm. The other is the
problem. When you open word it goes thru a "configuration process", about 5
min. Then when you try to open a '97 doc it gives an error message similiar
to " File ???????? not available". The filename it gives is something
totally unrecognizable. I thought maybe the license didn't activate properly
so I did what "help" said to do to check to see if software had been
activated and ran into a problem there also. There's not a "Program Names"
option when I click the MS Office button. Did it not install properly? I
really need some help.

Check that you are logged in as Administrator, then reinstall Office 2007
and reactivate it (if needed). Then it should work again.
