Can you create Project Ideas in a Sharepoint list and import it in PS as
Projects? Basically, Project idea collection in SharePoint opposed to
Portfolio Server or as a Project in Project server and then later be able to
create a project in PS from that sharepoint list project entry

Yes, you can create proposals/activity plans from SharePoint lists, and then
convert the activity plan to an enterprise project.

By default, Project Server 2007 allows you to create a List in WSS and then
import it as a Proposal. After approval, you can convert the Proposal into
an enterprise project. Hope this helps.

Thank you. I looked into that functionality but it does not serve our purpose.

Unfortunately, the mapping of sharepoint list fields to PS 2007 enterprise
custom fields is not configurable. So, it does not allows us to map the
sharepoint list fields to PS enterprise fields. The present functionality
basically is creating a new Proposal with multiple tasks imported from
Sharepoint.
What we want is to create a new Proposal (Project Idea) and bring in the
sharepoint list fields information into PS 2007 enterprise fields. We are
collecting a lot of 'summary of business objectives', 'benefits' etc.
information in the sharepoint 'project idea' collection list. we want to be
able to import that data into PS 2007 Proposal.
Is there a way to configure the mapping of sharepoint list fields to PS
Enterprise fields?

Based on your requirements, I do not believe there is any way to accomplish
what you want without customization. Given this fact, I would recommend
that you post your original question in the
microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup and let our developer friends
take a stab at answering your question. Be sure to include the additional
information you provided in your most recent post as well (map enterprise
fields to WSS fields). Hope this helps.
