Can you crop a screen clipping within its note container?

I read on a blog that you could crop screen clippings but don't know how you
would do that. When I click and drag within a note container, a shaded blue
rectangle appears over the area selected, but I can't seem to do anything
with it. When I release my left button, the area disappears and there is no
option to cut, copy, etc.

Whassup with that blue area? Whassit for? And what about that cropping
feature? Can I do that in OneNote, or do I need to paste the image in
another program?

Thanks for your advice.

If you're trying to screen clip you need to press Windows Key + S
first.

Sorry, but this seems to be a bit misleading.
As you know for sure: The "screen-capture" (clip) feature can be called
by clicking on the icon in the toolbar too (apart from using a
right-click on the ON-icon in the IconTray).

I'm afraid I wasn't clear in that first post. I'm referring to what you can
do *after* you have the clipping in a note container in OneNote. Can you
crop it?

The reference to the shaded blue rectangle is what you happens when you
click, hold and drag the mouse pointer in the note container after you get
your clipping. I can't see where that does anything. I know how to resize
the image clipped once it's in the Note container, but cropping is a
different thing. Can it be done? And what's with the shaded blue rectangle?

Thanks for your response.

Oh!! I really could not guess that from what you wrote :-( :-(
That's a totally different issue!!

The answer is: NO.
ON has no feature for "cropping" imported images.
You'd have to cut off what's unwanted when capturing.

This is correct behaviour.

container, but cropping is a different thing. Can it be done? And

The shaded rectangle is just for *marking* things.
As said above, there is no feature for cropping images in ON.
This has to be done with other tools (after using Copy + Paste in ON).

I do it with IrfanView [1], a fine freeware tool for doing lots of
things with images.

Well, if you have a screen clipping in a note container on your screen, then
you can take *another* screen clipping of it -- and only select the part you
want. Then you'll get a duplicate (but "cropped") screen clipping.
