Can you help my Priest with his question?

Dear Jack,

Thank you for these excellent websites. The only one I
had already was newadvent. Crosswalk.com has Greek and
Hebrew fonts, but I tried to download them and it does not
seem to work on Windows XP; would you know anything about
that? -- Fr. Bart, O.P.

His direct email is (e-mail address removed)

Thank you.

Unfortunately, Word cannot handle Hebrew (or Arabic) fonts or input, nor
will it work with Greek fonts (or any others) that are unicode based.

If you must deal with Hebrew and Greek for hermeneutic purposes, I recommend
an inexpensive ($25) shareware word processor/linguistically-oriented
typography application called MELLEL:

http://www.redlex.com

Its text handling is superior, especially for Hebrew and other Semitic
languages, with one-click text-direction control.

Whoops, sorry about the last posting; I missed the "Windows XP." If the
fonts you downloaded were for Mac, then they won't work for Windows. You
need to be sure to download TTF designated fonts.

Hi Gene, just reposting your message with a new subject so people who search
the archives will find it. Mellel's been mentioned before, but not
described in such detail.

Whoops, sorry everybody, I got the URL wrong for Mellel

http://www.redlers.com/mellel.html

"Redlex" is the company name, founded after the Redlers started their
website. I guess they haven't gotten around to putting up a forwarding link.

It's also their e-mail address handle for their user discussion list, to
confuse things even a little more....

That's okay, Dayo. I got the URL wrong due to confusion with the company's
name and with the email address for Mellel's user discussion list. Here's
the correct URL:

http://www.redlers.com/mellel.html

Sorry about that, folks!
