Can you install Office XP Academic over Office 2003 trial?

My Niece bought a Compaq laptop. It has Windows XP Home
Edition with a 30 day trial of Office 2003. She has Office
XP Academic that was install on a different PC. The other
PC died and she wants it installed on the laptop. Is there
a way to do this?

I have heard that uninstalling Office in Windows XP,
screws up the OS.

Uninstall the Office 2003 trial. Uninstalling will not cause a problem with
Windows XP.

Install Office XP. Use the internet activation option first. If that
fails, use the telephone option.
