Can you open Visio 2007 Professional files in 2003 without loss of functionality

So my company is about to install Visio 2007 Professional on my
computer so that I can easily create infrastructure diagrams using an
access database. My question to all of you is, will others be able to
open and update the files with Visio 2003 Professional or will all the
additional functionality that you get in regards to database
engineering in 2007 be lost if opening up in 2007.
My company has a standard of Microsoft 2003, so they're not willing to
upgrade all Visio's to 2007 if they don't need to at this point.

Your question is pretty standard for accounts that have multiple versions of
visio. What I get out of it is that you are going to start using a new
application that is based on v2007. That pretty much says the dependency is
the application, not visio. v2007 documents (when not tied to an
internal/external application) should be editable in v2003. v2007 Pro brings
functionality that is not available in v2003 when working with data(bases).

If you are referring to Database Modelling then there are no significant
differences between Visio 2003 Professional and Visio 2007 Professional. If
you are referring to the ability to link individual shapes to external data
sources, Visio 2007 Professional has new capabilities that are not available
in Visio 2003. However, the drawings you create in Visio 2007 can be opened
in Visio 2003 and edited with the existing features there.
