can you put hyperlinks over text?

In OneNote SP1 (preview available at http://www.microsoft.com/...) we've added support for "friendly" hyperlinks by which we mean not just a URL that lights up blue but real links that have distinct "display text" as well as the URL. We didn't have time to actually integrate the Office hyperlink dialog, though, so the only way to get them into your notes is to copy-paste them from elsewhere. The main scenario here is that copy-pasting existing content (say while doing research on the web) that contains hyperlinks now preserves the hyperlink – but you can also now (a bit tediously, certainly), create hyperlinks in other Office apps and copy-paste them into your OneNote notes.

Fully editable hyperlinks (as well as hyperlinks into your notes) are being (strongly) considered for future releases.

You shouldn't have to do anything special to have ON
convert typed text into a hyperlink. You may want to
give it clues that may help (same as in other Office
programs) such as always typing the protocol prefix
(http://blah.blah.com) or a name that begins
with "www.".

Creating actual hyperlinks (CTRL-K in other Office
programs) as you describe in the second part of your
message is not possible, nor can you link to other notes
or sections in OneNote. You can cut and paste a URL (or
type it in, etc.) and then put descriptive text before
it. To use your example:

"For further info, see this link below."
http://www.example.com

I typed in a hyperlink into ON, and it did not actually become a link, it
stays as just plain old text, is there something special to do?

Also, can you select some text, and put a link on it to somewhere? For
example, in a note, i have a string "For further info, see here." Can i
select the "see here" and put a link on it to documentation on the web
somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

knowing that workaround helps, Thanks!

I know that links to other Notes and editable hyperlinks are two
different features, and that the former is probably more complimicated
than the latter, but will the Office hyperlink dialog be put in the final
SP1 release?

No, we're basically solid now on the SP1 feature set. We all want this
capability, so no worries about getting it in the future.

BTW, a person could write an applet to create hyperlinks where you paste the
link and then put in a label, then click a button to put that on the
clipboard so you can paste the result anywhere in OneNote...
