Can you search the background image text in OneNote 2003?

I have previously used Windows Journal to take my class notes on my Tablet
PC. I am trying to switch over to using OneNote, but I can't figure out if
it will let me search the background document image text that I sent to
OneNote from Word or Journal. Journal had the option to do so, but it didn't
work on many documents (esp .ppt slides converted into .jnt format) -
although it was very helpful in studying some of my longer documents. I
would love to figure out how to do this in OneNote!

From what I've heard, it will have OCR of a sort, to be able to scan the
image that is inserted and recognize text. Of course the text may only be
searchable, and not editable.
When 2003 comes out, I may want it just for that... how many times have I
had inserted a document or picture that I want to search the text of!!!
Dang!

Well, I purchased the Academic version of OneNote 2003 (I'm a graduate
college student), which is supposedly a complete version. I inserted a
document from Journal that I could search background text in Journal but that
it won't let me search background text in OneNote. Could it be because the
file was converted to Journal first by the author, then I sent to OneNote? I
haven't been able to search any of my inserted documents yet. Help! Do you
have to activate the OCR feature somehow?

Hah, sorry, my fault. I didnt mean 2003. I meant 2007. The next version of
onenote. AKA onenote "12" (I typoed because of the message subject, I think)
In 2003 there is no OCR for background text. But all info I've heard is a
big yes for the next version.
I think you'll have a chance for a rebate when the new version comes out
because you bought it so late in the game, but don't quote me on that. But
If you can, return onenote 2003 and wait for 2007 to come out... Of course
Microsoft has little info on when it's supposed to be released. But I
suspect within a few months, if you can hold out for then.
