Can you update an attached .doc on the fly?

Tricky to descr. the subject.

I am hoping to provide users with a Word doc (attached to a form that is
part of a Lotos Notes application) that simply lets people add hyperlink
references to files. Once you open the file and make your additions, is
there an elegant way to save it and keep the updated information attached to
the form?
