cancel holiday reminders in Outlook

I want holidays to show up in Outlook calendar but don't want any holiday
reminders.

reminders.

I don't think reminders are added to holidays by default. It should be easy,
though to display your calendar in the By Category vew, add a subgrouping of
"Reminder" by adding the "Reminder" field to the column header and grouping by
that field as well. Then select the holidays with reminders and drag the
selection to the group "Reminder: No".

I should have thought of that, thanks. Buuut...I'll be damned - I've been
getting holiday reminders anyway, the latest being one for Columbus Day,
yesterday. The holidays don't show any reminders either in the listview or
when I opened a few of them & looked for Reminder under Options.

Any ideas?

an appointment set?

No, I have no appointments or anything set for the holiday. If I open the
day's schedule there is nothing at all, no appointments, tasks, things due,
etc.

Do you have more than one appointment for the holiday? If you open it, is
an appointment set?

Outlook doesn't produce reminders in that form, as far as I've ever seen.

Are you sure the remoner is coming from Outlook and not, say, something like
Google Calendars?

No, the reminders are not coming from another app - I just got another
Outlook reminder, this time for Halloween.

I had just cold booted the machine and Outlook was the only app I had
running. I do use Google Sidebar as a Startup item but I don't use any
"Gadgets" such as Google Calendars. Of course there are a few other Startup
items with Vista but my User list just has MSN Messenger and Media Player.

In this case, the notice was for 3 Reminders - two of them are overdue items
of mine and the third just says "Halloween". Halloween says it's due in 6
days. Why? Trust me, I didn't set this and if I open the "Halloween" item in
the Outlook Calendar is does not show a reminder as being set.

I took a screen print of this Reminder dialog box - if you'd like to see it
just tell me where/how to upload it.

Did you double click on the Halloween item in the reminder list to open it
or just look in the calendar? If there is no reminder on the Halloween
appointment, its not coming from Outlook - unless you have multiple pst's
and the reminder is set on it in a different pst than the one you looked in.

Does MSN Messenger start automatically? I believe it will tap the Windows
Live calendar for your account there. Perhaps that's the culprit. If the
reminders aren't set in Outlook, then it's not Outlook producing the reminder.

As requested I uploaded the screen shot to your test site. It's titled
"Office Reminder".

Brian Tillman, suggested that this might come from MSN Messenger accessing
my Windows Live Calendar. I guess he's thinking that a reminder in one will
be carried out in the other.

I think I've found the problem and it turns out that Brian is close to the
answer. I have installed the Outlook Connector, so my I can access my Live
Calendar along with my Outlook Calendar in the Outlook Calendar view. This
provides checkboxes for each calendar you have created, you can view them
side by side, etc. I had set up the Live calendars to include the US Holidays
as well as my personal calendar. In Live, these are separate things.

The Live Holiday calendar shows the holidays, and it provides for an
optional holiday ALERT (email or Messenger, I think) but says nothing about
reminders for holidays - it doesn't even have a place to choose yes or no for
holiday reminders.

However, if I check the Live Holiday Calendar box in Outlook's Calendar
view, then open the Haloween holiday item, then look at its options, it does,
in fact show a reminder for 1 week ahead of the holiday. So, apparently, the
Outlook Connector causes Outlook to fire a holiday reminder event in
Outlook's own reminder format, on behalf of Live.

This may be strange, but it answers the question at last. My own solution is
that I've deleted the Live Holiday calendar from my Live profile, so I feel
confident that this will eliminate any more silliness.

If Live wants to impose reminders they ought to tell the users and make it
an option. I'd pass this along to them, but accessing that suggestion area
has become a maze - just a hassle.
