If you are using Project Server 2002 or 2003, you should consider using the
following procedure to cancel tasks in an enterprise project:
1. Select the tasks to be cancelled
2. Click the Assign Resources dialog
3. Select the assigned resources in the dialog
4. Click the Remove button
5. Click Collaborate - Publish - All Information
Completing the first series of steps will cancel the assignments for the
resources and will cancel e-mail reminders about the assignment for the
cancelled tasks. Once you have done this, you could use the procedure that
Jack has detailed. Hope this helps.
Add a custom flag task field to the project, named "Cancelled" or something. Include the flag in the view and set it to "Yes" at the cancelled tasks. This allows you to filter and/or reporting cancelled tasks.
If you are using Project Server, you should do what Dale stated, in order to eliminate the assignments.
Greetings.
