cannnot start Equation Editor

S

sammy

I am using Office XP on Windows XP. When I try to open an Equation Editor
object (whether in Word or Excel), I get the pop-up error: "Microsoft
Equation Editor has encountered a problem and needs to close". Office will
then try to automatically install something, but to no avail. It then pops up
the same error.

I have tried to uninstall and reinstall Equation Editor from the CD, but no
luck. Anyone knows how can I fix this problem. Thanks a lot.

Try opening another application from the Insert > Object menu in Word.
See if you get a similar message.

For example:

Click Insert > Object
Select Microsoft Excel Chart

If you get a similar error this may mean that you have an issue with OLE.
Which means you may need to reinstall your Office program.
