Cannot accept tasks outlook 2003 sp2

In the office, tasks can be sent to users, which upon opening can be accepted
or declined. All users are on exchange. However, when tasks are sent to reps,
the option to accept or decline is given, but clicking has no effect.
Googling on this brought up office KB892843 as a possible culprit with
problems in vbscript, but this update is not explicity installed on these
machines. All XP and office updates are installed though. The reps' outlooks
are not connecting to exchange, but using pop mail. As far as I know, no
vbscript filtering is taking place though. have tried disabling mail filters
with no success.

Anyone have any ideas on this? Any help would be much appreciated!
