cannot access important info from my floppy disk

I am trying to access the information I saved onto my floppy disk from another PC and, all I get is a message stating my need to reformat the floppy disk. I am able to copy things onto a floppy disk from this PC and access the information on the laptop, but doing it the other way around does not work. I don't understand why that is. They both use MS Office XP and as far as I know they both have all the same settings and patches and everything else. I really need the information on this disk, and I do not have a way to do what I need, from the laptop. I wouldn't even bother with all of this if the laptops cd drive worked, the info could wait another day and if the guys would quit being self-absorbed and help me. Will someone please tell me the possibility/ies why I am having this problem? I would really appreciate it, thanks!

The problem is not with the software. The problem is the alignment with the floppy drive on one of the machines
In the machine that you need the information to go to say computer 2, format a floppy in that machine, then go to computer one and copy to that floppy. If that doesn't work, format the floppy in machine one and copy to it. All floppy drives have a tolerance of alignment and the pre formatted floppy is also formatted in the same tolerance. if one is on the high side and the other is on the low side of the tolerance this could help, because the pre formatted floppy may be on the high or low side, Make any snese
