cannot access outlook on my laptop

I have recently purchased a new laptop with vista on it. Am trying to
download my office xp developer on to it which it seems to have done. However
when I try to open outlook it says "the information store provider could not
be added to the active mapi profile" it then says there is an internal mapi
error and outlook cannot be opened. It is an older office disk.

Outlook 2002 won't work on Vista.
