Cannot access read-only document [file name]...

I move files back and forth between two PC's-one with Office 2000 and the
other with Office 2002. Recently, two files were moved from the Office 2002
PC to the 2000 PC. Those two files will not open; will not delete-even with
PC in safe mode; the "read only" attributes in file properties is unchecked.
Further one of the files generated these files with no file association the
first few times I tried to open them: 3BD7A000; 32F02000; 0288A000;
BF922000. Messages received when trying to open are: "Cannot access
read-only document [file name.xls]." Click ok and I receive: "Cannot access
[file name.xls]. When I attempt to delete the files, I receive these
messages: "Cannot delete [my name] - [file name]: Access is denied. Make
sure disk is not full or write protected or file is not currently in use." I
have since moved other Excel files back and forth and they open, close, save
and delete just fine. Ideas?

Floppy disk 90% of the time, and I'm quite sure these two files were moved
that way. Otherwise, it was CD.

Were the files saved to the HD and then copied to the media-or were they saved directly
from XL?
If they were then chances are that the files have become corrupted (never save/open
directly from any removable media).
