cannot access read-only

Don

I recently moved files from a memory stick to the hard drive an encountered
an error that I could never figure out. Just now, I moved files (usings
Windows Explorer) from the desktop to the HDD and got the same errors.

Messages received when trying to open are: "Cannot access
read-only document [file name.xls]." Click ok and I receive: "Cannot access
[file name.xls]. When I attempt to delete the files, I receive these
messages: "Cannot delete [my name] - [file name]: Access is denied. Make
sure disk is not full or write protected or file is not currently in use."

The "read only" attributes in file properties is unchecked.

Any ideas? Many thanks!

File and folder are both NOT marked read only. Cannot change flags on the
file, as it will keep telling me that I cannot access the file. Using
WinXPPro.

Sorry, must have gotten here because of my use of the word "access".

Thanks for your quick reply though!

make sure the folder is not read only. Make sure your access include
delete rights. Make sure the file has not been set to read only. (Likely
this may have been done when saved to the memory stick.)

Sorry. This is a newsgroup dedicated to questions about Access, the
database program in Office Professional. It appears your question may not
be related to these subjects. The Microsoft help system is not all that
clear and may have misdirected you here.

It is best to ask your questions in a newsgroup dedicated to the
subject of your question. You should find people better able to address
your problem there.

Note: It is always best to indicate the name and version of any
program(s) you may be using when asking a question and also indicate the
operating system (like Windows XP or 98) when you ask a question.
