Cannot add AutoText

I'm having a problem with Word 2004 not allowing me to add AutoText
onto documents. I want to add things like the filename & path, etc.
When I click on AutoText, the options are grayed out. How can I get
them active again?

You might want to test your Normal template. AutoText is stored in the
Normal template, and the Normal template has been known to randomly corrupt.
See here for instructions:
http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/MacWordNormal.htm
(hit refresh a few times in Safari, or use a different browser)

If that doesn't work:

What view are you in, where is the cursor when you click on AutoText, and
exactly what are you clicking on when you "click on AutoText"?

And exactly which options are greyed out?

This is all working fine for me, and I can't quite tell what you are doing,
exactly, so it's hard to troubleshoot.

By the way, is there a good reason you haven't gone up to OS 10.3.9, which
fixed some known bugs?

And have you run Help | Check for Updates to ensure your Office 2004 is
completely updated?
