Cannot add Newgroups to Outlook 2003

I have just upgraded from Outlook Express to Outlook 2003.... none of
the newsgroups are listed now. All of my mail imported and converted
fine, but of course none of the Newgroups were transferred over, that
would be too much to ask of the programmers I guess.

In the "Help" file for Outlook it tells me I have to add "News" to the
"Go" toolbar. When I go in to the customize menu as it instructs, there
is absolutely no listing for the word "News" so I cannot "drag it up to
the Go" toolbar as it says to do. I just don't understand WHY MS would
NOT already have a "News" toolbar selection in place, as it was in
Outlook Express. WHY should I have to go searching and dragging toolbar
icons? I never have understood some of these programmers who don't use
common sense for things like this.

Help! HOW do I subscribe to Newsgroups in Outlook 2003?

Outlook is not a news reader, nor is it an "upgrade" to Outlook Express. It
is an entirely separate and unrelated program. The News command simply
invokes your default news reader.

To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express. If
OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time you launch
it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click the No
button.

You may need to reset the Menu Bar and/or restart Outlook and/or reboot your
machine in order to complete the process. Not everyone is reporting success
with this method, but try it and see what happens. If all else fails, you
can always create a desktop shortcut to Outlook Express and include the
/outnews switch -- that gives you the same result as accessing the
newsreader via the News command in Outlook.

Thanks for the advice Russ, it worked. What threw me was that I was not
clearing the default newsreader box and selecting "no". If you answer
"yes", the program does not remember that it is the default reader, even
though you tell it that in the options. I'm still baffled as to why
Outlook does not incorporate a news reader but I can live with using OE
as the reader.

open internet explorer
tools - internet options
go to the programs tab
select outlook express as the default news reader
apply - ok
open ol2003 and he can now use newsreader

Outlook uses Outlook express for the newsreader functionality, Outloo
express needs to be made as the default newsreader first.

Hope that help
