cannot apply sp2 on office xp sp1

Conditions:
1. windows xp sp1 home edition, office xp pro sp1 loaded
initially from Dell
2. office xp pro was uninstalled, rebooted, and installed
back (cd contains sp1). During this step, no error occurs.
3. start on line registration using existing data previous
entered
4. applying sp2 and fail

When applying sp2 (downloaded from microsoft web site), "
The expected version of the product was not found on your
system" error message pops up. Does anyone have encounter
same problem? I cannot find similar problems in the
knowledge base. Help

Hi, Chester,

Try contacting Dell to assist you in loading SP2. It's possible that,
because it's an OEM-installed copy, Microsoft's automated update isn't set
up to deal with it...I don't know. But Dell is responsible for supporting
copies of Office that they install, so check with them first.

Actually I did. And they said they are not familiar with
Microsoft update and ask me to get help from Microsoft.
