Cannot archive, move or delete messages in OL2000

Hi all

I cannot archive, move or delete some (not all) messages from my inbox and
its subfolders - when I try to auto archive, I get an error message saying
the program cannot move files, and when I try to delete, I get an error
message saying:

"the messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists, please restart Outlook".

When I try to move messages manually, I get:
"Can't move the items".

I've tracked down the cut-off date, after which messages are okay - it's
only messages before this date that are affected. I gues it's caused by some
kind of corruption but I can't find anything on the knowledge base to match
the error messages.

Any help gratefully appreciated.
