cannot change cell format

I have a worksheet that has dates in it. I want to change the format of
those dates. But when i try it they will not change??????
any ideas/solutions are greatly appreciated!!

Perhaps the "dates" are Text.

Try Data>Text to Columns>Next>Next. "Column Data Format" check Date and pick
DMY or MDY or whatever is appropriate for the Text.

Finish.

You should get real dates that are formattable.
