Cannot change font or size in Word 2003

I cannot change the font nor the size in Word 2003. It seems to be locked
permanently. I downloaded Adobe 7 a few weeks ago, but uninstalled it when
it screwed up my computer. I also had Adobe 5 installed, so I dumped it
also. I tried uninstalling Office 2003 and then re-installing it to no
avail. Even the new installation still had the old default font (Arial 12)
locked in. Any ideas on how to fix it?

Acrobat 7 installs an add-in that prevents Normal.dot from being saved. You
can uninstall the add-in (though it requires a Registry hack, I think), or
you can force a save of Normal.dot by pressing Shift while opening the File
menu, then clicking Save All.

Still doesn't work. The font is totally LOCKED FOREVER!!! I removed
Acrobat 7 and all Adobe programs - even did a regedit to get rid of that.
But after uninstalling and re-installing Office Pro 2003 FOUR TIMES, Word is
useless. Even the re-install remembers the old default font that won't go
away. I can't even highlight text and change the font or size.

This sounds like possibly some other problem. Possibly the one described at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/NoFonts.htm?

All you had to do was...


Find the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins\PDFMaker.OfficeAddin]

and change the subkey called "LoadBehavior" from a value of 3 to 0
