Cannot change "override default IMAP port" in Entourage 2008

My work blocks the standard IMAP ports, so I have to use the alternate
one provided by my ISP. However, when I go to the account options,
check "override defualt port"and spec the port, it doesn't stick. Even
closing the window and re-opening it, it's still unchecked.

I've tried creating an entirely new Identity in case there was a
corrupted setting, but no joy.

Try this in a new User.

Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the
New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test there.

It could be a problem with permissions in your User's folder.

Some preference files are actually in the database. Try rebuilding the
database to see if that helps. Make a duplicate in the Finder first as
additional backup. A rebuild does make a duplicate, but sometimes in the
process the original and backup get merged resulting in total disaster. This
is rare, but it's easy to make the duplicate as added insurance.

How to rebuild:

Quit any applications that are running, including virus-protection
applications, all Office applications, Microsoft Messenger for Mac, and
Office Notifications/Reminders, because they might interfere with
rebuilding.

Nope. But wouldn't the test account have created its own DB too?

Yes. The next thing to suggest is to do an "Archive & Install". If you
preserve User settings it's not too bad.

Archive and Install

Make sure to choose the options to maintain your user settings. Once the
install has finished, your system will be at whatever level the disk you
have is. So if your Install DVD/CD disk is 10.5, that's what version of OS
will be on your Mac. You will need to download the appropriate updater or
Combo Updater from Apple's site to restore the system to a higher version.
After you run the updater, allow Software Update to download and install any
additional updates.

erk.

It's actually not that old a build. I did a rebuild about a month
before Leopard came out. I think at this point I'll keep using
Mail.app. I just wanted to try using Entourage for IMAP to see the
differences, but an archive/reinstall makes it more effort than it's
worth. From doing some googling, I've seen this problem in older
versions of Entourage.

Thanks for your help.
