cannot close help window

When I open help in Word or Excel (Office 2004 for MAC) I am unable to
close the window. It always stays on top making use of the program
impossible. I have to quit the application and restart in order to see
open documents. Help!

Hello-

Fundamental question, but have you tried repairing disk permissions?

Which version of Mac OS & update status of Office? New Installation/upgrade?

Is this a problem that recently developed but all worked OK before, & if so,
what else has changed recently? Any other related issues?

Latest version of Tiger. latest update of office. Have repaired disk
permissions. This has been a problem for as long as I can remember,
probably since installation of Office.

How should the help window close normally? Are the normal window
buttons in the upper left hand corner, or is there another method?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

With all office applications closed, try deleting the excel peferences
files then empty the trash. The next time Excel opens it will make new,
pristine preference files. You will loose certain customizations along
the way if you trash the preferences, however.
