Cannot config accounts in IMO

Hi.

When Outlook 2000 is configured for Internet Mail Only, the "accounts"
menu item on the Tools menu doesn't work. When I configure Outlook
2000 for Corporate & Workgroup, then the Tools|services item works.
But even then, I
can't get at the Properties of any account. The Properties button does
not work.

Also, the Control PAnel applet Mail Configuration doesn't work when OL
is
configured for IMO, but when configured for CW same situation as above
occurs -- can see services, but not their properties.

I have uninstalled and re-installed Office several times (including
using the Office removal tool from MS). Please help!! I found that
if i UPGRADE to Office2003 then the problem is fixed but this is not
really a soultion for me. I guess it is upgrading some DLL's.

Thanks!

When you say the Accounts item and the Mail icon "don't work," what happens
exactly? Any error messages? Anything in Event viewer? Any information on
what produced this problem? Have you been switching support modes back and
forth on the same machine?

Reinstalling rarely if ever solves anything. Did you try Detect and Repair?

Thanks. Absolutely nothing happens. The eggtimer appears for a
fraction of a second then goes. If i switch between modes and then
back it is the same. The mail applet works in MS Exchange mode but not
Internet Only. I have this on 3 computers.

I have tried renaming the mapi dll's and copying over new ones but to
no avail. I also re-registered the mapi dll's in the registry but
still nothing. Detect and repair does not help either.

Ick. Any idea what caused the problem in the first place?
Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of repair options for IMO as there are for
Corp/Workgroup (where creating a new profile will fix most of these
problems).
About all you can do is rename all mapi32.dll files before running Detect
and Repair, then try the fixmapi utility. There is a way to remove your IMO
"profile" in the registry you can try, too.

Wait a minute. What makes you sure this is a MAPI conflict? It doesn't act
like one.

I thought it was a MAPI problem because the Mail applet in Control
panel calls MAPI32.dll (i think).

This was a freshly installed Windows 2000 & Office 2000 machine.

Again, I tried the renaming of the dlls and fixmapi. The only fix I
found was to upgrade to Office 2003, but this is a bit extreme.

Thanks.
