Cannot connect Project Server through Project Professional 2007 viaInternet.

Hello,

I am able to connect to the Project Server through Project
Professional 2007 via Intranet but we cannot do so while using it over
the Internet. However, we are able to successfully use Project Server
(including WSS 3.0) via Internet. In fact, our Clients/Vendors/
Customers are using Forms authentication via Internet to update their
Task Assignments.

We approached Microsoft and talk to some other Network guys regarding
this issue and they all say that this might be the issue regarding the
Port and/or Firewall. However, my understanding is that (please
correct me if I am wrong) Project Professional 2007 connects to the
Project Server via HTTP and SOAP. As far as HTTP is concerned then it
should be using port 80 since we are using Project Server over the
Internet through port 80. And if that is the case then Port shouldn't
be any issue.

Can someone please help me on this.

Applies to: Project Server 2007 SP1, Project Professional 2007 SP1,
Windows Server 2003 SP2 (client).

Thank you.

Your problem is very broad and could be caused by many different
things. Port access/ firewalls is one likely cause, but yes, you are
correct that Project Professional uses http(s) / SOAP calls only, so
if you have PWA access, Project Pro should work.

One commonly overlooked detail is "Alternate Access Mappings" settings
in SharePoint. SharePoint uses host headers, even if IIS is not set to
use them. Make sure that the host name you are using to access PWA
successfully is the same one that you have set up in Project
Professional.

Maybe?

Thank you very much for the reply.
Yes, the URLs in the Alternate Access Mapping is correct.

However, the problem was solved. Actually there wasn't a real problem.
One of the PMs were trying to Login using Project Professional 2003
(which will never allow to connect to the Project Server 2007).
The other PM was trying Forms Authentication (option in Project Server
Accounts) while he was supposed to use Windows Authentication.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you once again.
