Cannot connect to mail after sutting up network

Hi,

I have recently set up a network where my ADSL connection plugs into a
router, which my PC is connected to via an ethernet cable. This all
works well when using the internet but when I try to connect to my mail
servers it keeps trying to dial up. Now that I have my connection
running through the router there should be no need to dial up (as far
as I know).

How do I set up outlook to use the new network connection?

Make sure that Internet Options has the right settings on Connections tab.
Select Never Dial a connection. Then in Outlook, go to Tools, options,
Accounts, Change acct, More settings, Connection, Connect using My LAN.

Well you didn't tell us which version of Outlook you're using but if you
go into the properties of the mail connection (probably Tools | E-Mail Accounts
| View or Change E-mail Accounts | Select the e-mail account | Change...)
You should find a connection tab and make sure it's set to connect using
your local area network.

Hi,

Sorry, I may have posted in the wrong forum. It is Outlook Express I am
using, not Outlook.

Anyway, I have tried to set Internet Connections to 'never dial a
connection' but it still does when I try a send / receive. I have
accessed the properties of my Tools>Accounts>(home email)>Connections
tab and set 'Always connect using:' to Local Area Network.

It is still trying to connect using a dial up even although I have no
dial connections (all deleted) and I am successfully running the web
through a browser. Any ideas?

Ooh. Well, Outlook Express is a totally different program from Outlook (despite
the similar names) and I'm afraid I don't know that much about it. You should
try asking in the Outlook Express newsgroups which are "just down the hall"
here. Sorry.
