Cannot connect to Project Server 2007

If I use IE, I can connect to PWA like this
http://projectserver2007/pwa
But when I try the same connection details in Project Pro 2007 as the
client, it says
"Logon failed. Project could not connect to server.
Please check your username and password"
I've tried it like this as well
http://projectserver2007/pwa/projects
but still no success.

I've seen the same issue mentioned on Technet, without an answer. Has anyone
found a solution?

Keith:

If this is the first time you are login into a new system, you must logon to
your machine using the account that you specified as the Project Server
administrator during installation. If you are certain that you are logged
into your workstation with an account that has logon rights to Project
Server with Project Pro, IOW: a member of Administrators or Project Mangers
groups, for instance, then you need to look at security settings in IE, or
your operating system next. Make sure that the site is in the trusted site
zone, that you have enabled access data across domains in the custom level
security settings for the zone, and that you set the security level for the
Trusted sites to Low. On the OS side, look for firewall settings that might
prevent this such as port restrictions. Also, some AV software can cause
this problem. Some Norton and McAfee versions can cause interference as
well.

Is this a friendly name you set up in your DNS database to re-route the URL?

When you put the url into I.E. does it route you to the true URL which is
http://[servername]/pwa

If so, then you need to add your friendly URL to the alternate access
mappings on SharePoint Central Administration.

This was the crucial part ..

Excellent! Many thanks :)
