Cannot connect to Project Server from Outlook

R

Rayk Grabosch

Hi,

I have installed the Outlook PlugIn (for 2003er version) and I want to
connect to Project Server 2007. I have entered the same URL in the login
information in Outlook that is used when accessing PWA via IE6.

The message I receive when I click "Test Connection" is that the URL might
be wrong.

Does anyone why this happens?

Thanks,
Rayk

I've got the same problem using the Internal and External URLs for PWA, both
of which work fine in my browser. Outlook insists the URL is invalid. Please
assist!

Hey everybody,

First of, just make sure about the URL. This URL is the same that we
use for PWA (Project Web Access). It generally is something like:
http://yourserver/pwa/

Also make sure that your administrator has logged-in to the server
(Not just started, but the administrator or any other power user has
logged-in).

If any-one of the above is true, do that, restart MS Outlook. I guess
it work then.

PS.

Thank you, PS. Unfortunately, Outlook still gives an error that the PWA URL
is invalid.

Note that Outlook rejects the URL VERY quickly. I am wonderring if this is a
Firewall or port issue, on my machine, the server, or router?

Background:
CLIENT MACHINE: I am running Vista Ultimate, Outlook 2007, with Windows Live
OneCare.
SERVER: Testing a Windows 2008 (RC0) server, in-network, running Project
Server 2007 (stand-alone install).

Again, my interanl and external PWA URLs work fine in the browser (IE7) on
my local machine, just not in the Outlook plugin.

Perhaps you or someone else could kindly provide me with a test external PWA
URL that I could use to test if Outlook is even trying to connect? I do NOT
need any Project authenticatication credentials. I just want to test if
Outlook is really communicating at all with a Project server.

Eureka! I found it, after cracking my head in this for a week.

Go into IIS > Select the PWA site > Properties > Directory Security >
Authentication and access control > Edit > Place a check next to 'Enable
anonymous access'. Leave the default Username and Password (I am not sure
where it got that username and Password info.) > OK

It looks like I am only half way there.

Now, Outlook successfully checks the Project server, but Authentication
fails. I cannot figure out how to get the Outlook Add-in to pass on the
correct Windows Account credentials. The add-in displays 'Your credentials
were not accepted by the server. Contact your admininstrator...' By the
way, note that the dialog itself misspells the word, administrator :)

I set up the correct Windows Account credentials info in Vista's User
Password Manager, for my PWA site. But the Outlook Add-in is apparently
disregarding those credentials.

Does anyone know how I can control the credentials used by the where the
Outlook Project Add-in? Please assist!

Notes:
Project Server 2007 is running on Windows Server 2003.
Workstation = Vista Ultimate that is NOT connected to my domain.

Great news! I found a workaround, and hope it helps things happier for all of
you. This bug drove me crazy.

1) Open Outlook.
2) Go to Outlook's Web Toolbar on top. (If you do not see it, Right-click in
the toolbar area, and click 'Web'.)
3) In the Address field, enter the URL for your Project Server > Enter.
4) Outlook should prompt you for Project Server Login credentials. Enter
them. Click OK.
5) Once authenticated, try the Outlook add-in. It should now work.

Repeat this process each time you launch Outlook.

My theory as to why the above workaround works: The process forces Outlook
to refresh its cache of the user's Project server credentials, which then get
passed onto the Project add-on.

Hi all,
I think I have found origin of this problem. this addin can't work with a
external URL or IP address.
My solution is easy.
I continu to use my local server name like : http://myserver/pwa.
and I change my HOST file by adding : ip(public) myserver(local).

For me it's temporary solution but it's work.

Hi

I have configured IE the way Uttkarsh Kalia suggested but it still doesn't
work!

In the event viewer, in application, appears the following errors:
Soap error: One of the parameters supplied is invalid..
Soap error: Loading of the WSDL file failed.
Soap error: XML Parser failed at linenumber 0, lineposition 0, reason is:
Access is denied.

None of the links of Help and Support Center has useful information.

Can anyone help me and everyone that has this problem?

Thanks,
Ricardo Gonçalves

I have found that if you add the server's address (http://server/pwa or
whichever it is) in the internet options' intranet zone, it will recognize
the address right away, no need to tweak anything or to access the page with
outlook's browser.

I'm still trying to find a way to do it programmatically to save the users
from doing it themselves.

Has anybody found a resolution yet that was proposed by Microsoft? Rather
then having all those work-arounds (which do not work in my case), are the
'greatest programmers in the world' not able to give us a resolution?
