Cannot copy and paste

Bob

Word 97 suddenly cannot display graphs copied from the web
and pasted into Word 97. Text before and after the
chart will display but not the graph. Tables will not
display properly either ....... the text/numbers in the
table will appear as text in a sentence. This has been
happening for six months but was OK before that. Windows
2000 Pro, Dell 700mhz, 128mg RAM, 5GB left on drives.
Please Help by e-mailing me at (e-mail address removed)
Thanks,
Bob

The first thing I'd suggest is to make sure that you have both service packs installed for Office 97.

The second option is to take a look at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;245710

If neither of above options works, try to Paste Special (under the Edit menu) the graph into the document. It's been awhile
since I worked with Word 97, but I think the Paste Special option was around for that version.

Hi Bob,

When you select and copy from a web page you are not directly copying
graphics. Instead you are copying an field that points to where the
graphic is stored on the file server. In order to include a graphic
you need to save the graphic and insert it into your document.

If you want a better idea of what I am referring to press Alt + F9 to
toggle the field codes. Those that reflect {IncludePicture http:\\...}
are the graphics.

If you are connected to the Internet when you view the document then
the graphics will display. However if you are disconnected or if the
graphics are no longer available or their location changed, then they
will not display.

As for tables not displaying properly, I have found if you do not
select the entire table then only the data is copied and not the table
structure.

You can embed the graphics in your document, however (when you are connected
to the Web and they are displayed), by selecting each and pressing
Ctrl+Shift+F9, which unlinks them.
