Cannot copy cells from one workbook to another workbook. How to fi

Somehow Excel does not let me copy and paste cells from one workbook to
another workbook. After selecting cells I want to copy and press ctrl C,
dotted line blinks. If it's within the same workbook, I can paste the cells
to another location. However, if I try the same to anotehr workbook,
basically the dotted line blinking stops, and loses the copied cells, hence I
cannot paste over to another workbook.

I cannot fix this, or cannot see solutions anywhere, and it's been this way
for a couple of weeks now. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

You must have the other workbook open first, the destination sheet must
not be protected, to access the workbook to be pasted to use the WINDOW
dropdown on the menubar and select your other workbook, if your other
workbook runs code when activating other sheets then make sure the sheet
you want to paste to is already active in the destination workbook
before copying.
