If you display hidden files and folders, you will probably notice an owner
file (sometimes referred to as a "lock" file) that hasn't been deleted from
an earlier session. The names of these files start with a tilde followed by
a dollar sign (~$) and they are in the same folder as the actual file you
are trying to open. If you find such files on the desktop, delete them. You
may have to restart Windows first.

See also http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm. For more on
temp files in Word, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/211632/en-us/
(Description of how Word creates temporary files).

Can't you just open it in word then save it to where you want ?

Same problem. Any help please? :(

Have you tried right clicking on it and under Properties see if it's
marked Read Only? Also while looking at Properties see the Security
tab, and see if you have Full Rights. If not modify it so that you do.
