Cannot Copy/Paste in ONE Word 2000 Document

I'm having multiple problems with one Word 2000 Document. I cannot copy and
paste into or out of the document. When it first opens, I sometimes get an
error message about visual basic with End and Help as options -- it looks
like a macro error message, but I can't get the message to pop up right now.

Also, whenever I'm in one particular footer and try to type in the date, as
soon as I try to type F, the document freezes and I have to End Program. I
finally figured out to use Find/Replace to get the date in.

I'd appreciate any help or suggestions.

After saving the document with the problem, try copying and pasting all the
contents to a new, blank document (use Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, and Ctrl+V). You may
have to re-enter the headers and footers. After saving the new document, try
working with it; if it is free of problems, use it and delete the old one.

Try this without the final paragraph mark though: Ctrl+End, Ctrl+Shift+Home,
Ctrl+C and then paste into a new document.

I think Richard and Terry must not have taken in the implications of your
message! Another way to get the file (minus the last paragraph mark) into
another file is to create a new document, press Enter several times, then
use Insert | File to insert your problem document. You can then delete the
empty paragraphs you inserted (they're required to keep Word from just
inserting the entire problem file into the new document).

You are quite right! I guess a corrupt document and suggested the 'usual
solution,' overlooking that the corruption was going to prevent the
solution. Doh!

Okay, now it's letting me copy and paste (go figure!) but I still have the
footer problem. Whenever I try to type the fourth character for the date (F,
space, 0, whatever) the document freezes. My biggest concern is that this
document is going through an electronic document management system, and I'm
worried that when it renders to PDF that there will be problems.
Unfortunately, I'm not a system admin so I can't test it. Any other
suggestions?

If it is just a footer corruption, then delete all the footers, copy and
paste the whole document without the final paragraph mark (as per my
previous post) and recreate in a new document.
