Cannot create a sharepoint site

Dear PS experts,

I have a issue which I have never been able to resolve and thought I'd give
it another go. I am using PS 2003 and I know that for each project published
within server the related Sharepoint site has not been created. When I try
and maually create a site, it gives the error "erro occurre when creating
site. Site doesn not seem to exist". It has created the public documents site
but refuses to create a site for each project. Is there an easy step by step
guide as to finding out why this has happened???

Any help deeply appreciated.

Thanks!!!

I would try two things:

1) You can test the connection to WSS by navigating to Admin / Manage
Windows SharePoint Services in PWA and simply clicking the Save Changes
button. Does this work fine or are there any messages when you do this?

2) Check COM+ components (Administrative Tools / Component Services,
navigate to Component Services / Computers / My computer / COM+ Applications
/ Microsoft Office Project Server WSS Admin Component

Hope this helps...
Marc

H Marc,

Thanks for taking time to answer my query. I have reason to believe that
sharepoint configuration is not correct thus causing this error.
On the window, Manage Windows SharePoint Services.

SharePoint Central Administration URL: http://gla1as16:11095
Create a site under this SharePoint URL: http://projectserverwa:80/sites

note: http://projectserverwa:80/sites/MS_ProjectServer_PublicDocuments (this
works fine)

1. Sharepoint central admin URL test works fine.

2. When saving changes, warning message is as follows:
the server name in the sharepoint url is different from the server name in
the url under which sites will be created. In most cases the server name
should be the same.

in my case: Click ok to save changes

Error message when validating, "you have not specified the correct proxy
settings through which project server can can connect to the remote windows
Sharepoint services". To specify the proxy server, run proxycfg.exe with the
appropriate parameters.

I will verify with my sharepoint admin that this is the correct url/port
number for this. The very fact i cannot save changes in this windows
indicates that there is something very wrong here.

I shall report back with my findings.

Thanks

Hi Marc,

I ran the PROXYCFG utility and that sorted out the connection to the
Sharepoint Server.

However, it still isnt creating the physical Sharepoint site when the
project is published. In addition to this under 'manage Windows sharepoint
services' when I co to create a site it doesnt let me do this. Any further
suggestions gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Dear All,

I have finally tracked down the error when creating Sharepoint Sites!
Hallelujah!

Although one of the workardounds/fixes to this is the site email owner
address. I had this set to my compnay email address. Perfectly valid and not
that of the user sqssql! once we had changed that it worked!!!! DOH! the
documentation doesnt make that clear though. I'm now wondering what the
permission differences for the sqssql user are opposed to mine to allow the
creation of the sharepoint site. If anyone could let me know that would be
great.

Thanks
