I can't delete some e-mail, message says "folder is full".
Also have problems with some deleted emails that I want to permanently
delete, get this message: "The messaging interface has returned an unknown
error. if the problem persists, restart Outlook." That does not solve the
problem.

Have you tried compacting your message store (.pst file)? You did not
mention WHICH version of Outlook that you use. Different versions
obviously have different feature sets and may even change the UI,
including the menus. In OL2002, right-click on the root node for the
message store, Properties, Advanced, Compact Now. Could be you are
already at the maximum size for the .pst file. Deleting entries does
not physically remove them. It only marks them with a status of
"deleted" which means the UI (Outlook's window) won't show them. Not
showing an item is not the same as removing it. You need to compact
the message store to physically purge those delete-marked items from
the .pst file. That might make the .pst file small enough to do
further deletions. Before compacting, delete all items in the Deleted
Items folder (so they also get physically purged from the .pst file
during compaction).

If compaction works, start reading Outlook's help on using its
auto-archive feature to move old items into another message store
(i.e., into another .pst file). You can use File->Open in Outlook to
keep that archive .pst file open in Outlook to go look at or search on
those old items.

If compaction doesn't help, you might have to try running the ScanPST
program (aka Inbox Repair wizard utility).

Have you used Internet Options to purge your browser's TIF (temporary
internet file) cache? This is the folder where content in web pages
get cached. It is also under here where a temporary "OLKxxxx"
subfolder is created for attachments that you open from within Outlook
(versus saving them to your hard disk and opening them from there).
The name used for this hidden TIF subfolder is recorded during the
install of Outlook in the registry at:

key =
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\Outlook\Security
data name = OutlookSecureTempFolder

If Outlook or a plug-in for it crashes or for any reason that Outlook
is terminated before closing the view of that attachment, there is
still an open handle on that file so that file cannot be deleted.
That means the file remains in this hidden subfolder after Outlook has
closed and even after you then exit the view window for that
attachment. So try cleaning up (deleting) the files in your TIF.

Have you yet visited the Offce Update web site to make sure you have
the latest service pack and updates for MS Office?

Google is always a possibility:

I also have just started having this problem. For months I've been using an access database that has VB code that
1) Creates a folder, FOO
2) Copies emails to the folder
3) Deletes the folder.

About two days ago I started getting the same error message.

I suspect that there was an office update that is causing the problem.

To delete the folder using the UI I need to
1) Close Outlook
2) Start Outlook in "Safe mode" by holding down the CRTL key when clicking the Outlook icon.
3) Delete the folder in safe mode.
4) Quit Outlook
5) Restart Outlook in normal mode.
