Cannot Download Hotmail e-mail onto Entourage

Nigel Thavasi

Hi,

Does anyone know how to download Hotmail onto Entourage. I'm new to the
ways of the Mac, so I'm at a loss.

Everytime I try to download it, I keep getting the message that says that it
cannot download the folders - Error 1500.

Can anyone tell me what to do?

Thanks,

Nigel

Hi Nigel,

In Entourage X there are two ways to approach this depending upon how you
like to organize your stuff.

One way is to create an entirely different identity (I suggest this one).
From the "Entourage" menu choose "Switch Identity" (or press Option+Apple+Q)

In the "Entourage" dialog that opens click the "New..." button

Give the identity a name. "Hotmail" would be a likely choice, but call it
anything you like. Click OK.

In the succeeding steps fill in the blanks as presented. Here are two key
things to watch for:

In step 4 where it asks "What do you want to import" choose "I want to start
using Entourage without importing anything."

In step 7 choose "I already have an email address that I'd like to use."
then fill it in.

When you click "finish" the hotmail account should appear in the left pane.
Click on it. Everything will work right unless you have Internet Explorer
set to not accept cookies. Hotmail won't work with Entourage unless IE will
accept cookies (or set to ask for each site, to which you must allow cookies
for hotmail when prompted in Entourage). In other words, Entourage uses
Internet Explorer's settings and cookie manager for cookies from HotMail.

The other approach is rather than creating a new identity is to add hotmail
within an existing identity. To do that use Entourage's Tools > Accounts
menu. Click on the "Mail" tab then click the "New" button. Follow the steps
above and the Hotmail account will appear in the same frame as your regular
email account.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the help. I tried both the options, but I keep getting the same
message:

HTTP error. The server cannot fulfill the request. Error 1500.

How can I check if my cookies are set correctly in IE?

Thanks,

Nigel

Hi Nigel,

I bet you are using Entourage 2001. I suspect hotmail changed their servers.
I got the same thing when I tried it. Entourage X works, though.

Hi Jim,

I'm using Entourage X. I checked from the About Entourage. Is there a way
to check the cookies settings on IE?

Thanks,

Nigel
